Rebecca is a PhD candidate in the Scripps Whale Acoustics Lab, where her research focuses on understanding the spatiotemporal distribution patterns of toothed whale species in the western North Atlantic. While her early career lay in the culinary realm, Rebecca decided to change tracks in order to pursue her long-held scientific interests and contribute to marine conservation efforts. She returned to academia to complete a second undergraduate degree before beginning her graduate career at SIO in 2016. Post-defense she intends to pursue research to inform marine mammal population management and conservation policy.
When she's not classifying echolocation clicks, you can find Rebecca spending time outdoors with her daughter, partner, and dog, doing yoga, or baking whale-themed sweets.
